SEMINAR 10. MOBILE APPLICATIONS


MALL is a subset of both Mobile Learning (m-learning) and computer-assisted language learning (CALL). MALL has evolved to support students’ language learning with the increased use of mobile technologies such as mobile phones (cellphones), MP3 and MP4 players, PDAs and devices such as the iPhone or iPad. With MALL, students are able to access language learning materials and to communicate with their teachers and peers at any time, anywhere.

The main principles of MALL:
1. Accessibility in any place; at any time and for any user.
2.Access to teachers, librarians, and other learners. 
3.Ability to interact with other learners, including playing games, conversation, and project-based learning, capabilities to take pictures, capture sound, and input text.

Examples: Educational Apps, eBooks and eLibraries, Social media, Informal learning activities, Course Management Systems: Moodle for mobile, Audio, video , picture, The power of QR Codes


QR-code is a barcode that contains data that can be read by a phone's camera. Most smartphones come equipped with software that allows them to download a QR Code reader. Once you download a reader, the phone's camera acts like a scanner, allowing it to "read" the barcode.


QR-code in language teaching / learning:
-Нelps in a quick audience survey
-Coding tasks for group or individual work
-Links to multimedia sources containing additional information on a specific topic
For Example, last year we had area studies seminars, so we could use it. If everyone had a QR Code reader, we could scan it and watch videos, pics and so on like add information. 

 The mission of Quizlet is simple: To help students and their teachers practise and master whatever they're learning. Quizlet provides engaging and customisable activities thanks to contributions from people everywhere.





Рolleverywhere - a simple application that works well for live audiences using mobile devices like phones. People participate by visiting a fast mobile-friendly web page for your event or sending text messages. Instructions are displayed on-screen. The poll that is embedded within the presentation or web page will update in real time. Advanced uses include texting comments to a presentation, texting questions to a presenter, responding via the web, and SMS interactivity in print, radio, and TV.


Personally, I liked Quizlet more, because the interface of the site is better, it is easy to use and there's a choice of language.


AUGMENTED REALITY- is a live direct or indirect view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are "augmented" by computer-generated or extracted real-world sensory input such as sound, video, graphics, haptics or GPS data.






Аugmented reality in education.

Using the opportunities of augmented reality in education, it is possible to visually reproduce processes that are difficult or almost impossible to recreate by means of the real world and simply make the learning process fascinating and understandable. With the help of this technology, you can stand out in the space of the exhibition or make the museum exposition lively and exciting. Augmented reality can add to the static pages of the book expressive animation, turn reading into an exciting game and an interesting adventure along with the characters of the work, as well as streamline the playback of audio and video content attached to the paper book. In the classroom, you can use smartphones to show children how the world works with Google Earth and web albums such as Picasa and Instagram.

But unfortunately, i don't think that it will be available to us in the near future in our country. Cuz not all schoolls and universities have the necessary equipment.
